Manual and Automatic lessons

Most areas are covered by Manual and Automatic Instructors - so the choice of car is up to you.

Our recommendation is that wherever possible try to take the Driving Test in a manual car (because by passing the Test in a manual car you are allowed to drive both manual and automatic - if you pass in an automatic then you are restricted to only driving an automatic)

However what we often suggest to pupils that may be a bit nervous or have difficulty with the clutch, is that they start their lessons in an automatic - and then convert to a manual when they have gained their confidence.

Intensive/ Crash courses - normally 5 hours per day & can be run over 2, 3, or 5 days.

The 5 day course is one week long start Monday finish Friday & we book your test for the following week.
The 2 & 3 day courses are similar where we try to book your test on the day following the course.

Pass Plus course

PASS PLUS is a training scheme for new drivers, designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry.

The course consists of six practical modules which cover driving in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways.

Having completed the course many insurance companies will consider you to be a better and safer driver and therefore offer up to 30% discount.

Just tell the receptionist when booking your first lesson and we will make sure that we select an Instructor that will take you through your driving lessons cautiously at first to build up your confidence.

How old do I have to be to start Driving Lessons?

For most of us it is 17, but if you are currently receiving a Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate (mobility component) you can start at 16

How soon after becoming 17 can I pass my Driving test?

3 weeks is about the quickest and the way to do this is:

Apply for your provisional licence 3 months before your birthday.
As soon as you receive it book your theory test for your birthday and your first lesson with us the day after.
Revise well so you pass the Theory test first time
Normal test waiting times are 4-6 weeks, but we can usually get you one within far quicker - so as long as you are able to take whatever lessons you need quickly we should be able to get you through your test within 2/3 weeks after your birthday.

Who is allowed to Teach or Supervise me?

Anyone who is at least 21 years old and have held a full EC motor car licence for at least 3 years can supervise and teach you - as long as you do not pay them.

Only a registered Driving Instructor is allowed to charge money for teaching and supervising you.

It is illegal for anyone else to charge you - either in money or “money’s worth” (means that you cannot pay for the petrol or work off the lessons or anything else)

How can my Parents help?

Easy - by paying for your lessons!!! & giving you loads of practice in their car.

They obviously want you to pass your test - but they also want you to be able to drive safely.

So even if they can’t afford to fund all of the lessons suggest that they help you with paying for a 6 week starter course and you then fund any further lessons that you may need.

£450 on their credit card is a small amount for the pleasure you are going to be able to repay to them by being able to taxi them around &pick them up late at night when they have had far to much to drink!!

We will help by giving you the first lesson at £10 - because were so good that we want to prove it to you.
